My first instrument was the descant recorder. My first tune was taught to me by my sisters Karin and Liz, and we called it "BBCCDB" (properly know as "Now the Day is Over"). At school I played recorder in Britten's Noye's Fludde before starting on tenor horn at the age of 12.

My first horn teacher was Leeds-based Sydney Barnard, who encouraged me to take up a place at the Royal Manchester College of Music Saturday morning sessions. Later on, I attended full-time and had lessons with the legendary Sydney Coulston, as well as studying cello and piano.

I currently play 2nd horn in the Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra and am a founder member and Orchestral Manager of Orchestra of Square Chapel.
